One thing is for sure - no-one can, or will, make you believe. None of us need believe anything if we don't want to. We are told facts - but even facts that have evidence laid out for them we are not obliged to believe.
In an extreme example, I could show you a bright red bus and you could insist that it was blue. You would hold one belief about the bus and I another, albeit mine, in this case, would comply with the majority. We are free to believe what we like about things around us.
So what happens when it comes to belief in God. It is a circular argument. God requires that those who wish to avail themselves of His offer must believe that He exists and that He will reward them (Heb 11:6). But if we do not believe that God exists, then we will not accept that this statement makes any sense. Religious belief goes further than the initial human logic - it is initially a leap of faith, and yet, paradoxically, those who have made this move will tell you that afterwards a whole new set of logic kicks in, which makes perfect sense.
We cannot make this move without seeking God's help. Prayer must be the first thing. We cannot find God on our own - God has to call us. So first we must pray - even if the prayer is to god who at the moment you first ask you don't know if you believe in. If your prayer is humble and serious, then, in His own time-frame, God will answer it and show you why you should have faith.
We are saved, we are told, by grace through faith (Eph 2:8). Here we are also told that it is not us that do it, but it is a gift of God. Grace is a word that is used in the Bible to describe this very thing - how God gives us the gift of eternal life, if we choose to ask Him for it.
