Is this saying considered out of date in the 21st century?
What it meant was that whoever earns the wage or ‘bread’ could have been the ‘life saver’ for a family, no money = no food. Work is good for us, activity to keep us healthy, stimulation for our brains, this is confirmed in Genesis 3:19 “in the sweat of your face, you shall eat bread”
I love bread and can conjure up that gorgeous smell of freshly baked bread now – delicious 😋
It is a staple food throughout the world, obtained in various different types, an everyday commodity.
Jesus described himself as the bread of life in John 6:48
We need Jesus like we need bread. Jesus is the Saviour of the world – acknowledging him will help us in our daily life. Remember the Lord’s Prayer
“Give us this day our daily bread”
Before Jesus was crucified he enjoyed a meal with his disciples which we call ‘The Last Supper’ recorded for us in Mark 14:22.
Christian believers today remember Jesus by following this example, of breaking bread and drinking wine, celebrating the death but most importantly the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
