My son likes searching for treasure with his metal detector. As I was looking at his detector, I thought, ‘There’s a lesson in that for those of us who are searching for God’.
You could look around a field all day and find nothing of value, but with the power of a metal detector you can find coins and artefacts – iron, brass, silver or gold – hidden beneath the surface. And how exciting it is when you discover something interesting or valuable.
So it is with searching for God. God has revealed all that we need to know about Himself– in the Bible. If we don’t read it, or read it just casually or occasionally, we will only be ‘scratching the surface’. But if we pray for help and search/study it carefully and thoroughly, we will uncover more and more about God and His plans for the earth – and for you and me. The more we understand, the more we will want to pursue our search for yet more treasures – a relationship with God who wants to be a Father to us and to give us all that He has and is. Jesus said, ‘Seek and you shall find.’ (Luke 11, 9)
‘…. the knowledge of the mystery of God the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.’ (Col 2, 3)
