What is salvation?

Salvation means being saved. But why do I need to be saved? You may ask, and who can save us?

Take a walk through a graveyard, and on each headstone you will read of the basic details of a life etched onto them.  There are the lives of both young and old sadly passed away.  Every stone has one thing in common, they each describe lives from the past and each day their number increases. We recall the well-known phrase, “Ashes to ashes, dust to dust”. Death would appear to be the same destination for all. So can we escape this predicament? Can we cheat death and escape? Can we be delivered from the grave?

Well there is hope, and it doesn’t come by us saving ourselves! The Lord God alone holds the ability to save us from death. Just as those who all shared the same destiny, back in the graveyard. You and I can each overcome the power of death by faith in the Gospel which means “good news”. “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3 v16). This came only by the Lord God giving His Son, Jesus, to die for the sins of the world. So everyone who accepts the Lord Jesus and is baptised into his name, can receive the everlasting salvation that Jesus offers us.
